The Twins were, last fall, linked to Miguel Tejada. I don’t know how serious any of the rumors were, as some of what I saw might have been blog-driven. At the time it seemed like a somewhat sensible option. Expensive, but getting an All-Star with a decent glove and a good (but declining) bat seemed like a good idea, especially since Houston acknowledged that they would have to eat salary on any deal. It should surprise no one that this deal didn’t work out, and Tejada stayed with the Astros.
Now Tejada has been indicted on charges of lying to Congress about steroid use of a teammate. I tend to think that charges of lying about his own usage will follow shortly. Well. This will be a major distraction for the Astros, as he will likely have court appearances during the season. Ugh. Lying to courts/Congress never turns out well, unless you have a president on your side.
